2017 Class Letter

Room 1, 2 and 3 Learning Space

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to our collaborative learning space for 2017. The children each have a Home Room teacher. Mrs Jane Ruiter is in Room 1, Miss Emma Smith is in Room 2 and Mrs Sarah Boswell is in Room 3. While your child is based in these Home Rooms, we will be working collaboratively and there will be movement between the three spaces.

Hi, my name is Jane and I have been teaching for many years at Parkview Primary School, and have a continued enthusiasm for what I do. I have four grown up children and two granddaughters with another on the way! I am looking forward towards moving into an exciting collaborative teaching space with Emma and Sarah.

Hi, my name is Emma! Last year I was teaching a Year 2 class at Hampstead School in Ashburton. I have recently relocated to Christchurch from Auckland and I am enjoying exploring a new city! I enjoy travelling and have visited many countries across the world! I have recently completed a trip to America over the summer holidays! I am looking forward to working within our wonderful collaborative spaces with both Jane and Sarah.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I have been teaching for a number of years. I previously taught at Sockburn School in a collaborative space. I am excited to now be a part of the Parkview team as my husband and I live within the community. I enjoy a range of sports and am a keen netball and tennis player.

Throughout the year we will be gradually moving into more collaborative teaching to enable a smooth transition. Small changes have been made already such as openings between classes. There are many benefits for your child through collaborative teaching and we are looking forward to our ongoing journey. These benefits include, targeted groups, utilising teacher skills and talents and creating a community environment.

We are committed to helping your child achieve their full potential. We are carefully planning to cater your child’s needs. Within our learning space we are delivering consistent messages, routines and structures.

Important learning space notices:

Arrival and Departures
  • Please make sure your child is at school before the 8:55am bell to ensure they are ready for the day.
  • At the end of the day we respectfully ask that you wait outside to avoid disruption to the class as this is an important time for us to conclude our day in a positive way. You are very welcome to enter the rooms after the bell to celebrate your child’s learning.
  • Please contact the office if you are going to be late to drop off or pick up your child.

Class Routines
  • Please make sure your child has all required stationery items as soon as possible.
  • Reading folders will come home each day. In order to support your child’s learning please make sure you make time to hear them read. There will be 2-4 books in your child’s reading folder each week and they must be returned on Monday.
  • Poetry books will come home on a Friday for extra reading over the weekend. Please return these on Monday.
  • Please take care of any books or resources that come home.
  • Our library day is Tuesday.

You can find our learning space blog at http://room123parkviewprimary.blogspot.co.nz/. Please check this as we will share the learning that has been happening as well as important information.

We are really looking forward to teaching your child this year. We believe that by working together with you, your child will make faster progress.

We are looking forward to meeting you all at the ‘Meet the Teacher and Team Evening’ now on Monday 20th February and further informing you of how best to support your child. The evening will start in the hall at 6:15pm before moving to the learning spaces and concluding at 7:00pm.

Please feel free to discuss your child’s learning with us.

Many thanks
