Our School Disco

Kia Ora!

Welcome back to Room 1, 2 & 3's blog! Have a look at the wee video below! We had our School disco in our hall! We were super lucky to get some goodie bags and we spent the afternoon dancing away!
Mr T and all of our teachers came and joined us and we loved sharing our dance moves with each other! Our favourite song at the disco was Shotgun by George Ezra!

Relay Races

In our last week of school we got to practice some relay races! It was so much fun and we did such an awesome job for our first time! Watch this space as we carry on practicing our relay races!

A Spring Walk

As we are now in Spring we decided to go on a lovely Spring walk to see all of the things that have changed since Winter. On our spring walk we saw lots of things which had changed! Just outside of our learning space we have a beautiful blossom tree which has just bloomed! We also went over the Adcock reserve and observed all of the new animals and plants!

Police Visit

On Monday we were super lucky to get a visit from our local police officer. As part of our 'Keeping Ourselves Safe" unit we have been learning all about what to do if there was ever an emergency! Matt taught us lots about what to do if there is ever an emergency. We learnt all about what Police Officers do and why we would need to ring the police. Miss Grigg even got to try on some handcuffs (don't worry she hadn't really been naughty)

Dakota and Kieran got to dress up just like a police officer, they raced really quickly to get into the clothes, they were a little bit too big though! Eeekk!
As part of our homework it's really important that we know our address so that if there is ever an emergency we can tell people where we are so that they can send help! Dayton also tested some handcuffs, they are very strong!

Check out a few pictures of below!

Firefighter Visit

On Monday we were super lucky to get a visit from our local firefighters. As part of our 'Keeping Ourselves Safe" unit we have been learning all about what to do if there was ever a fire! Sunny and his friends from the Fire Station taught us lots about what to do if there is ever an emergency. We learnt all about what Firefighters do, how we can make sure that we are safe and Miss Smith even got dressed up as a firefighter!

As part of our homework it's really important that we know our address so that if there is ever an emergency we can tell people where we are so that they can send help!

Super Skipping

We are very lucky to have Helen come and play with us everyday and help us get better at our skipping. Helen has even helped us organise a skipping competition, this helps us with our counting, and also statistics as we tally up how many skips each person does!

Blue comes for a visit!

We were lucky enough to have Blue the dog come and visit.
Blue is a Labradoodle and he is very clever. We were able to give Blue lots of pats and even walk him around the classroom!

Shared Experiences

Using Shared Experiences

Room's 1, 2 and 3 have enjoyed a number of fun shared experiences lately. These lead to many great learning opportunities such as providing:

  • A common talking point for all children- they can all contribute to discussions
  • A way to build and extend vocabulary
  •  Opportunities for practicing collaborative work and following instructions
  •  Listening and reporting back practice
  • Art and craft experiences
  • Writing experiences
  • An opportunity for children to pose questions
  • Extension of the children's knowledge of the world around them
  • Practice of our school values
Hope you enjoy these pictures that show some of the experiences we have enjoyed.

In The Pink

Wear Pink Day

What a great response we had from our our tamariki and whanau this Friday to show support for anti bullying .

Most of the children from across our learning spaces came dressed in all sorts of wonderful pink attire and enjoyed a fun day of comradeship and laughter as a result.

Room 1 writers even wrote their stories in pink which proved a bit of a challenge to read but it was fun!

Here are a few of the gorgeous kids that made the day so successful!

A few of us share the same birthday so we took a special photo on May 18th.

On Thursday 17th May Parkview will be having a cross country event over at Adcock Reserve
(located behind the school). The Junior classes are scheduled to run at approximately 2:00pm
however if you would like to watch we suggest arriving a little earlier to ensure that you do not miss
their race. We respectfully ask that your child stays with their home room teacher for the entirety of
the event to ensure their safety. You are more than welcome to take your child once we have arrived
back to the classrooms.
If you have any questions or queries please see your child's home room teacher.

"Ribbit Ribbit" Our Frog Art.

Last week our poem was all about frogs!

We decided to do some frog art to go alongside our poem! We watched a cool video where somebody taught us how to draw a frog step by step! After we had drawn our frogs we dyed them using dye and a paintbrush.

Dinosaur Art

Every week Room 1, 2 and 3 have a special poem that we learn, we try and do some weekly activities to go with our poem, recently we have had some really cool animal poems.

One of our poems was about dinosaurs! Check it out below:

After we had learnt our poem really well we decided to make some cool dinosaur art. We got into groups of 2 or 3 and made our own dinosaur. Our dinosaurs are special dinosaurs that no one has ever seen! After everyone in our group had added detail onto our dinosaurs we painted the dinosaurs with sponges to make it look like our dinosaurs had really rough skin. Have a look at our cool art:

A visit from Room 17 and 18.

Room 17 and 18 came to visit us to show us all of the cool things that they have been learning on their Chromebooks. First we looked at the animations that they had, after that we got to help create one of our own animations with help from our buddy.

It was really fun to work with the big kids! They taught us lots of new things!
We're super excited to learn more from them next term!
