Exploring Beyond The Fence
Today Room's 1,2 and 3 became explorers. We set off to find out what was "Beyond the Fence" as a language experience that could be used in our writing programme.
We ran up the big hill and saw lots of amazing things: the smoke billowing from the Port hills, the bowling club lawns, the tall cabbage trees and the huge pine trees.
We looked at the sparkling pond and saw: toitoi, flax, bullrushes and pond weed. We sat at the waters edge and watched the ducks compete with the eels for the food we threw to them.
The naughty wind took Fionn's hat into the pond and we laughed as it floated into the distance, finally sinking to be with the eels.
Finally we ran around the pond as part of our daily fitness routine. Back in class we had lots to talk about and each class made up a story to recount the adventure. In the words of Room 1 " We made up a real story!".
Watch this space for our stories!
Off we go!

What plants and animals can we see? |

2017 Class Letter
Room 1, 2 and 3 Learning Space
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to our collaborative learning space for 2017. The children each have a Home Room teacher. Mrs Jane Ruiter is in Room 1, Miss Emma Smith is in Room 2 and Mrs Sarah Boswell is in Room 3. While your child is based in these Home Rooms, we will be working collaboratively and there will be movement between the three spaces.
Hi, my name is Jane and I have been teaching for many years at Parkview Primary School, and have a continued enthusiasm for what I do. I have four grown up children and two granddaughters with another on the way! I am looking forward towards moving into an exciting collaborative teaching space with Emma and Sarah.
Hi, my name is Emma! Last year I was teaching a Year 2 class at Hampstead School in Ashburton. I have recently relocated to Christchurch from Auckland and I am enjoying exploring a new city! I enjoy travelling and have visited many countries across the world! I have recently completed a trip to America over the summer holidays! I am looking forward to working within our wonderful collaborative spaces with both Jane and Sarah.
Hi, my name is Sarah and I have been teaching for a number of years. I previously taught at Sockburn School in a collaborative space. I am excited to now be a part of the Parkview team as my husband and I live within the community. I enjoy a range of sports and am a keen netball and tennis player.
Throughout the year we will be gradually moving into more collaborative teaching to enable a smooth transition. Small changes have been made already such as openings between classes. There are many benefits for your child through collaborative teaching and we are looking forward to our ongoing journey. These benefits include, targeted groups, utilising teacher skills and talents and creating a community environment.
We are committed to helping your child achieve their full potential. We are carefully planning to cater your child’s needs. Within our learning space we are delivering consistent messages, routines and structures.
Important learning space notices:
Arrival and Departures
- Please make sure your child is at school before the 8:55am bell to ensure they are ready for the day.
- At the end of the day we respectfully ask that you wait outside to avoid disruption to the class as this is an important time for us to conclude our day in a positive way. You are very welcome to enter the rooms after the bell to celebrate your child’s learning.
- Please contact the office if you are going to be late to drop off or pick up your child.
Class Routines
